UN-AU cooperation the best but faces challenges: UN chief

Lauding the collaboration between the United Nations and the African Union (AU) as the best ever, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday warned major challenges lie ahead.   Guterres told a Security Council meeting on cooperation between the UN and the AU that in the 20 years since its creation, the African Union has shown its determination to work towards integration, peace and prosperity on the continent.   He said that collaboration between the United Nations and the African Union has never been stronger, but major challenges remain, including conflicts and unconstitutional government changes.   The secretary-general said that for

UN General Assembly Rejects Russia’s ‘Referendums,’ ‘Annexation’ in Ukraine

The international community sent a clear message to Moscow on Wednesday, declaring the country’s so-called referendums and attempted annexation of parts of Ukraine illegal and invalid under international law.   In its strongest show of support for Ukraine since Moscow’s February 24 invasion, the U.N. General Assembly voted 143-5, adopting a resolution condemning and rejecting Russia’s move to annex Ukrainian territory.
