Cairo — Clashes broke out in various Egyptian cities on Friday between Muslim Brotherhood supporters and security forces, leaving 15 people injured.
Security forces arrested several Brotherhood supporters in more than one city during the clashes.
In Suez, four police officers were shot during a pro-Brotherhood march in Arba’een Square and five demonstrators were arrested carrying arms, an Interior Ministry statement said.
Four people sustained injuries from shotgun pellets in Fayoum and a conscript was injured during clashes between the demonstrators and the police.
Police forces in Gharbiya’s Kafr al-Zayyat arrested five Brotherhood supporters after they had protested against the army and the police and hurled fireworks and petrol bombs at security forces.
Six people were hurt in Sharqiya in clashes between pro- and anti-Brotherhood demonstrators during an anti-army march.
In North Sinai’s Arish, the police dispersed a march for pro-Brotherhood protesters using teargas bombs.
Police forces also arrested 10 pro-Brotherhood elements in Alexandria earlier today, a witness said.
The demonstrations supporting the Brotherhood come in response to the National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy’s call for staging protests on Friday.
Supporters of the Brotherhood and of former President Mohamed Mursi have taken to staging demonstrations on a weekly basis since Mursi’s ouster last July.
