ACCRA. Nov 18 — Injury has ruled winger Andre Ayew out of Ghana’s mid-week 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (aFCON 2015) Group E qualifier qualifier against Togo at Tamale, capital of Northern Region (province), some 600 kilometres north of here.
Ayew, who was the stand-in captain in Ghana’s match against Uganda in Kampala on Saturday, which the Black Stars lost 0-1, will be unavailable for selection following a thigh injury he sustained in the Uganda match.
AAyew, who wore the armband Saturday in the absence of injured Asamoah Gyan, will be out for about two to three weeks, according to the Black Stars’ medical officer, Baba Adam.
The player was a second half substitute in the match in Kampala where a first-half Uganda goal pushed Ghana’s campaign into a tight corner, needing a win against Togo to ensure qualification for next year’s finals in Equatorial Guinea.
Ghana still leads the group on nine points with Uganda on eight, and Togo on six points. Guinea props up the table on four points but can still miss out on qualification if the results favour Uganda and Togo.
