JAP-Hammamet 2023: “National team is world class, can go for gold” (NTD)

National technical director (NTD) of the Tunisian Handball Federation (FTHB), Amine Ben Amara, said the men's and women's national beach handball teams will go for gold at the 2nd African Beach Games JAP-2023, to be held in Hammamet from June 23 to 30, 2023.

"In fact, three preparatory training was held by the two teams between April 24 and May 31 in Hammamet, the host city of the event," he said in a statement to TAP, noting that the preparations were carried out in good conditions.

The NTD said the men's and women's beach handball teams have a world-class technical level that will enable them to win gold at the JAP and a place at the World Beach Games, which will be held in Bali from August 5 to 12.

He added that the men's team stood out at the international handball tournament held in Hammamet last March under the auspices of the game's international governing body, finishing second in a competition that included heavy-weights such as France and Sweden.

The JAP will be preceded by an international tournament in Hammamet from June 20 to 22, featuring four women's and four men's teams.

Amine Ben Amara said the FTHB has adopted a new strategy to promote the discipline by organising the first beach handball youth championship and encouraging all clubs with a handball section to include beach handball.

The draw for the men's and women's beach handball matches at the Hammamet 2023 African Beach Games will take place on Monday June 5 in the Ivorian capital Abidjan.

The CAHB has also confirmed the participation of 10 countries in the beach handball competition at the JAP (June 23-30), 4 of which will participate in the men's and women's events.

Here is the list of participating countries

Men: Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Kenya, Togo, Mali, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

Women: Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Mali and Uganda.
