JCC: CNCI announces “exceptional edition” from October 28 to November 4, 2023

The National Centre for Cinema and Image (CNCI) announced on Friday that the 34th Carthage Film Festival (JCC) will be "organized from October 28 to November 4, 2023, in an exceptional edition".

This date was chosen in consultation with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the joint consultative commission, - bringing together the ministry, the CNCI and professionals from the film sector -, the Centre said.

The JCC is usually organised in autumn. The 33rd edition was held from 29 October to 5 November 2022.

In a recent statement to TAP, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Hayet Guettat Guermazi, announced that "the major part of the programme will be dedicated to Tunisian cinema, which is celebrating the centenary of its birth this year".

At the end of a working session of the members of the joint consultative commission, the ministry had announced that this special edition will be reserved for Tunisian cinema in accordance with the fundamental principles established by Tahar Cheriaa.

The organisers of the festival want to rethink its format and its future operating mechanisms. The aim is to enable the festival to return to the spirit of the JCC and its fundamentals as conceived by its founder Taher Cheriaa, namely a festival that promotes Arab-African cinema.
